History of Big Bear Farm
Our family moved to Big Bear Farm in 1982 and began to breeding, training, and producing quality Connemara and Connemara Crosses. Through the years we have had some amazing stallions. Leigh Ellen Ertle rode two stallions to win the Golden Shamrock Award, among other awards. Look at our stallion page for more information on the stallions that have stood at Big Bear through the years, As well as our stallion Shammer Eagle who is currently standing at stud. For almost 40 year our family has been breeding Connemaras we are still setting the bar high as we continue to breed for disposition, type and talent. At this time the third generation of Big Bear Farm Breeders is beginning to take over. Ellen Elizabeth, John and Josh Ertle have their own mares and are learning about breeding and the wonderful Connemara breed.

Big Bear is well known for their Connemaras. We breed for disposition first. Connemaras and crosses have proven themselves as performance horses with several competing through Grand Prix Dressage, Preliem Eventing, Hunters, and Jumpers.
Enoch Ministries at Big Bear Farm
Enoch Ministries is a 501c3 nonprofit counseling program that uses our horses in sessions to help individuals, residents of group homes, military and their families who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, communication as well as a variety of other mental health concerns. Enoch Ministries Colaberates with other professionals in the community to provide retreats for veterans and their spouses to help them through PTSD, communication and relational areas of concern that they are contending with.
